The Longacre Difference
Families who know us best understand that the Longacre Experience is two-fold—we emphasize both the physical and the interpersonal. Sure, you may join us because you want to ski Mt. Hood in Oregon, explore Alaska, or surf the waves of Costa Rica. But, during this process, you will also learn to treasure smaller things: learning how to properly pack your backpack, the beauty of a sunrise from your island campsite, or the moment you realize you have tons in common with a new friend who seemed so different just a few days ago.

If the best places in the world were easy to get to, they wouldn’t be the best places. On one level, this can be taken literally: it takes a lot to summit a 14,000’ peak in Colorado, trek to a massive glacier in Iceland, or climb to the top of a 70’ rock face at Squamish, BC. However, on another level, some of the “best places” can also be found within: the joy of cooking an awesome meal with your new friends, the realization that it’s more important to wait for the group and summit together than be the first one to the top, or the comfortable silence that descends on a group in the backcountry.

We often finish our days with evening meetings. These sessions further bond the group together. They help kids to process the day’s events and speak from the heart with confidence. At the end of every summer our parents and leaders refer to this experience as the “Longacre Magic!”
